Adel, Baron of Night
Overview
Adel, Baron of Night is a colossal black dragon encountered as a boss known for its gaping sideways jaw and voracious appetite. The creature inhabits a battlefield occupied by Leyndell Knights, Leyndell Foot Soldiers, Leyndell Soldiers, and Mad Pumpkin Heads; the camp is part of the encounter environment and the Leyndell Knights are the primary targets required to defeat the fight. Adel was once a marvel of the natural world, immense and regal atop its perch, but after the Night's Tide drenched the old island in azure rain all life withered. Starved of prey, Adel descended into ravenous madness and grew into the monstrous foe seen in the encounter.
Adel's base repertoire centers on powerful bite and grab attacks that inflict heavy Blood Loss buildup when the full animation connects. In the opening phase he deals standard physical damage and can be staggered by Poison; poisoning Adel causes it to regurgitate a pile of black sludge, briefly interrupting its actions and applying the full sum of the poison damage immediately. When Adel enters Phase 2 it becomes imbued with violet-purple lightning and gains additional Lightning damage on many moves. In later, more empowered versions of the fight Adel moves at extreme speed, can whip up a massive cyclone, and gains jagged purple horns on both jaws while using a fully upgraded moveset.
The Everdark Sovereign variant of Adel begins the encounter already in the electrified Phase 2 and transitions into an empowered Phase 3. At 60% HP this variant teleports uncontrollably, strikes the earth in a flash of lightning, and summons a raging tornado; the tornado deals Lightning damage to players outside its ring while the eye of the storm remains a safe zone. The tornado lasts 60 seconds and has a 60-second duration with a 60-second cooldown, allowing it to be activated roughly once every 120 seconds; Spiritstream jumps appear with the tornado and can be used to enter the eye from above. During Phase 3 several attack hurtboxes are expanded and Adel favors triple ground pounds over single ground pounds.
Adel shows resistance to Fire, Lightning, and Blood Loss and is fully immune to Madness. Adel is vulnerable to Scarlet Rot, Frostbite, and Sleep and is particularly affected by Poison—when Poison procs Adel suffers the total damage-over-time upfront and can have subsequent status buildup applied sooner than usual. Poison also prompts the regurgitation behavior that creates a temporary Poison hazard by vomiting the contents of its stomach. Adel is classified as a lesser dragon; anti-dragon weapons deal extra damage and can immediately stun Adel out of its grab attack.
- Drops: Night of the Baron (first victory), random Relics, Murk, Sovereign Sigils (Everdark Sovereign).
- Practical tips: only attacking the Leyndell Knights is required to win the encounter; use Poison to interrupt and deal large immediate damage during phases that allow it; stack Lightning damage negation in electrified phases; avoid standing in lightning fissures and tornado damage zones; hurl Fetid Pots from behind and never near Adel’s mouth; breaking Adel’s stance can free allies from grabs and anti-dragon strikes or strong stance-breaking attacks can interrupt the bite/grab animation.
