Caligo, Miasma of Night
Overview
Caligo, Miasma of Night is a four-winged prehistoric dragon Nightlord encountered in the Fissure in the Fog Expedition introduced by The Forsaken Hollows content. She appears as a phantasmal, mist-shrouded dragon that descends from a secluded peak to observe and test the world, using potent frigid magic to control the battlefield. Her Japanese title, 夜の霞, translates to "Mist of Night". The internal data name for the creature is MistDragon and its internal ID (c4900) aligns with field-boss identifiers.
Caligo deals primarily magic-based frost damage and applies frostbite. Her breath attack leaves blue ice crystals on the ground; stepping on those crystals causes them to explode and further increase frostbite buildup. Any time frostbite is inflicted during the encounter, all players suffer a -15 reduction to frostbite resistance, making follow-up frostbite procs easier. Caligo is classified as an Ancient Dragon for weakness interactions and shares typical dragon weaknesses.
In her opening phase Caligo telegraphs two distinct wide-area attacks while cloaked in dense mist. She either summons a giant overhead ice disk that later shatters into falling shards (avoid by moving out from beneath the disk or by closing in on Caligo, since a small safe zone exists near her), or she draws cold winds inward and raises large ice pillars before releasing a massive burst of frigid wind — take shelter against the pillars to avoid the full blast. Her breath and ground-formed crystals continually pressure positioning and frostbite management.
At roughly half health Caligo enters a second phase and gains aerial strafing behavior: she flies across the arena repeatedly, showering the area with ice shards on each pass. Additionally, ice crystals begin to form on the field more frequently without direct prompting, increasing the need for movement control and awareness of safe spaces.
Practical notes and tactics:
- Fire damage staggers Caligo when sufficient heat is applied, and staggering her applies a defense debuff for 30 seconds. Prioritize fire when possible to shorten the fight window.
- Treat her as an Ancient Dragon for weapon selection and resistances; dragon-affecting buffs and items that target dragon weakness are effective.
- Completing the Mountaintop Shifting Earth objective grants an anti-dragon buff that lowers frostbite buildup and boosts attack when frostbite occurs; this buff materially improves survivability and damage throughput in the encounter.
- During the Fissure in the Fog Expedition raid, Caligo announces her arrival with an obscuring ice storm. The raid version marks her on the map with a translucent red oval; a single strike forces her to depart and awards an on-death buff that causes the next lethal hit on a player to be dodged and grants brief invisibility.
- Exploit the safe zone near Caligo during the overhead disk attack and use the ice pillars as cover against the wind burst. Constantly clear or avoid crystals on the ground to prevent explosive frostbite procs.
- Caligo is vulnerable to critical attacks after her stance is broken; capitalize on stagger windows for high-damage opportunities.
Resistances and immunities: Caligo is neutral to standard physical damage (+0% standard damage modifier). She is fully immune to Sleep and possesses notable frost-related mechanics rather than straightforward resistances; frostbite buildup mechanics and the post-frostbite resistance penalty are central to the encounter’s difficulty.
