Libra, Creature of Night
Overview
Libra, Creature of Night is a Nightlord boss in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN and the final-day target of the Equilibrious Beast expedition. He is a goat-headed demon who first appears as the Scale-Bearing Merchant, offering bargains before the fight begins. Depending on the encounter, Libra may show up as a field event on the map, as a raid encounter, or as the expedition’s final boss. In his merchant form, he presents a short list of wishes that grant strong benefits at a steep cost; players can accept one deal, refuse to bargain, or attack him outright to force the battle.
His deals are deliberately dangerous but often powerful. They can raise one attribute while lowering the others, grant an extra Flask charge at the cost of maximum HP, restore HP once when critically injured, give a random high-rarity weapon in exchange for levels, or provide a delayed stat boost after a temporary penalty. Some deals are especially useful in this fight: resistance to ailments helps against his frequent Madness buildup, and certain weapon rewards can exploit his weakness to Holy or other favorable damage types. If all other options are poor, refusing the deal is always valid.
During the fight, Libra deals Physical and Holy damage and regularly inflicts Madness. Many of his attacks leave behind small yellow false-gold pieces or gems; collecting them reduces Madness buildup and should be a priority whenever the arena becomes saturated with the effect. When he begins pummeling the ground or chanting, the arena can quickly fill with danger, so movement should focus on gathering these drops while avoiding detonations and burst damage.
A central mechanic is Libra’s meditation stance. When he meditates, a golden barrier forms around him and floating sigils appear nearby. The barrier can be broken by force or by destroying the sigils, and doing so inflicts Madness on him. If he finishes the channel, he becomes more composed and his spellcasting becomes more dangerous, coated in gold. Certain actions can break the stance immediately, including some strong class techniques. Libra is vulnerable to a Critical Attack after his stance is broken.
If Madness is inflicted on a combatant, Libra gains an attack buff, and if Libra himself is affected by Madness, he can go berserk and lunge repeatedly before releasing a Madness explosion. He is also immune to all status ailments while still shrouded in his merchant form, and any damage dealt to that form is reset when he transforms, so the real fight always starts at full HP.
In the raid version, Libra may curse the whole team with reduced maximum HP until paid off. Only one player needs to pay his requested rune cost to remove the curse and complete the raid, after which the whole team receives the Demon's Plating buff for the remainder of the run. Attacking him instead turns the encounter into a field boss fight, cancels unfinished dialogue, and defeating him also removes the curse.
