Gaping Jaw (Everdark Sovereign)

Boss type
Everdark Sovereign

Overview

Gaping Jaw (Everdark Sovereign) is a late-stage Nightreign boss encounter that exhibits aggressive, lightning-focused behaviors in its final phases. The boss fights like Everdark Adel, beginning a heightened state of aggression characterized by electrified attacks and area-denial mechanics once it is already in an energized condition. Poison no longer staggers it while it is electrified.

When the boss falls to roughly half its health it enters a third phase and begins a distinctive transition attack. The transition begins with the boss floating and teleporting rapidly before slamming into the ground and charging a wide-radius purple lightning discharge that deals lightning damage to anyone caught within. Immediately after the discharge, the boss launches into a giant leap while projecting a purple beam that marks the impact point; intermittent lightning strikes occur while the boss is airborne. On impact, players who have not put sufficient distance between themselves and the marker take heavy lightning damage. Upon landing, the boss begins generating a large tornado that slowly expands outward from its location. Blue spirit springs appear at the tornado’s edge for players who position outside it; lingering outside the tornado causes damage over time, while jumping into the tornado via the spirit springs lets players re-enter the fight safely. The boss can pass through the tornado without penalty, and the tornado temporarily dissipates when the boss prepares its next major discharge, allowing players to reposition.

The boss’s new grab attack in the third phase has an extended animation and applies bleed twice in quick succession to targets lacking substantial bleed resistance. This double-bleed application is lethal for unprepared players. The grab can be interrupted if the boss is staggered by a high-damage ultimate or by weapons that carry an anti-dragon effect.

  • The phase transition attack is telegraphed by the boss floating and a purple beam designating the impact point; use that marker to create safe distance.
  • Avoid standing on the tornado’s edge to prevent continuous damage; use the blue spirit springs to jump into the tornado when necessary.
  • Maintain high bleed resistance or burst-stagger capability to survive or interrupt the grab attack; staggering the boss during the grab prevents the fatal double-bleed.
  • Do not rely on poison to stagger the boss while it is electrified; plan for lightning-resistant armor and mobility to escape large-radius discharges.
