Overview

Overflow Gate is a Serpulo-exclusive transport block that is one of the four instant-transfer "light transport" devices in the game. It was introduced in version 4.0 and is grouped with Sorter, Inverted Sorter, and Underflow Gate as a device family that teleports items instantly rather than moving them along belts or conveyors. The block is designed to preferentially output items toward the tile in front of it.

Overflow Gate functions as an instant-output gate that favors the forward direction when distributing items. It is classified as a seconds-transfer device (instant-transfer device) and operates differently from standard conveyors by instantly moving items to adjacent blocks according to its directional preference.

The light-transfer devices share a continuous-placement restriction: they cannot be chained arbitrarily. As of version 6.0 the block’s earlier item limit was removed and a maximum consecutive placement limit of 2 was applied to this family of devices. This means you cannot place more than two light-transfer devices consecutively in a pure-chain to form a long instant-transfer line; mixing different types does not bypass that shared restriction.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Place the Overflow Gate so its front faces the preferred output direction; it will prioritize sending items forward when possible.
  • It is most effective when used to direct items into adjacent factories, containers, or other blocks that accept immediate input.
  • Because it is part of the instant-transfer family, it behaves differently than belts and sorters; use it where instantaneous transfer or compact routing is desired.
  • Remember the shared consecutive limit of two: design layouts with intermittent normal conveyors or other blocks if you need longer chains.
  • The Overflow Gate’s role is complementary to Sorter, Inverted Sorter, and Underflow Gate; use combinations of these devices to achieve directional or conditional routing within the constraints of the light-transfer placement rules.
