Official description

Equally distributes items in three directions from surge conveyors. Can be sped up with power. Conducts power.

Overview

The Surge Router is an Erekir-only transport block that redistributes items from a single input into the three other adjacent directions while also conducting power. It accepts input only from the side opposite the direction it faces, and it can accelerate distribution using electrical power. The Surge Router is commonly used to pack and speed up resource throughput in advanced layouts and functions similarly to a Router in some competitive or paired modes.

When no filter is set, the Surge Router divides incoming item batches evenly across the three output sides. When a filter is selected, the block will pass batches matching the filter forward (in the direction it points) while sending other item batches to the left and right outputs. Power can be applied to increase the rate at which these batches are dispatched. Surge Routers also transfer power to adjacent blocks, making them useful as small power conductors in compact builds.

Practical details and tips:

  • Input and orientation: the router only accepts items from the opposite side of where it faces; plan orientation so your source feeds that side.
  • Distribution behavior: with no filter the router evenly splits items among the three outputs; with a filter it directs matched items forward and non-matches to the sides.
  • Throughput numbers: the correct redistribution rate is 50 items/sec to each of the three outputs (not 100/sec) under normal operation; power can multiply dispatch speed.
  • Power use: the Surge Router consumes 3 power/s and can be powered to increase throughput; it also conducts power to all adjacent blocks.
  • Logistics and automation: the router exposes routing options for logic control, allowing more advanced, conditional item routing when tied into a control network.
  • Uses: primary use is high-throughput resource packing and accelerated transport; secondary use includes localized power conduction in dense factories.
  • Reinforcement: the Surge Router has a Reinforced upgrade that provides an overspeed capability (increased throughput when upgraded). Adjust power and placement to take full advantage of the upgrade.
