Slag Incinerator

Incinerates non-volatile items or liquids. Requires slag.
Overview
The Slag Incinerator is a utility block that disposes of unwanted items and liquids by burning them. It was introduced in Build 136 and altered in Build 147 so that it no longer consumes slag over time; instead it only requires that some slag be present in its liquid capacity to activate. The block is intended to remove by-products and excess materials that would otherwise clog production lines, storage or processing buildings.
Mechanically, the Slag Incinerator must hold a nonzero amount of slag in its liquid tank to operate, but it does not drain that slag continuously (consumption changed from 2/sec to 0/sec in Build 147). Because it does not remove a steady quantity of slag, it can be connected to liquid conduits or tanks without upsetting throughput ratios for other blocks. The incinerator accepts both items and liquids as inputs and destroys them on contact while active, making it a passive sink for waste products.
Practical uses and interactions:
- Place the incinerator downstream of production chains that produce unwanted by-products to prevent backups and keep machines running.
- Use it to automatically clear item inventories on blocks that cannot function when full. For example, attach it to the output of a
Large Deconstructor that stalls when its item capacity is filled.
- Attach to outputs of an
Oxidation Chamber when recycling the chamber’s output back to a core is impractical; keeping the oxidation outputs cleared preserves expected heat emission and processing behavior.
- Because the block only needs a small amount of slag to be present, route a tiny slag supply into its tank rather than a continuous flow; this lets it coexist with other liquid consumers without changing their ratios.
- The incinerator is suitable for occasional or permanent waste disposal in bases where space or logistics make returning by-products to the core undesirable.
Installation notes:
- It can be placed adjacent to item and liquid conveyors or pipes; ensure at least some slag is available in its liquid capacity to activate it.
- The block’s lack of ongoing slag consumption means it will not serve as a sink for excess slag itself, so combine it with other slag-handling setups if you need continuous slag removal.
The Slag Incinerator is a simple but effective tool to keep automated systems unclogged and maintain steady operation of processing buildings.
