Overview

The Incinerator is a crafting-station building used to permanently dispose of items that cannot be stored or routed to useful destinations. Its primary role is as a last-resort waste outlet to prevent item traffic from backing up and clogging conveyor routes and machine outputs. The Incinerator is not intended for routine recycling or production; it exists to remove unwanted items that would otherwise accumulate and halt logistics.

The Incinerator is particularly important when working with machines that output multiple item types onto the same output lanes, such as the Separator and Disassembler. Those machines produce mixed streams of goods where the unwanted types can build up on a line if not removed. Placing an Incinerator at strategic points in a network prevents such build-ups from clogging the whole route and interrupting throughput.

The Incinerator pairs well with Sorters and conditional gates. A Sorter can eject wrong items from a line directly into an Incinerator to keep the main flow clean. For greater flexibility, use an Overflow Gate or Underflow Gate to send surplus or unwanted items to the Incinerator only when storage or alternate outputs are full; this preserves waste items for later use while keeping the Incinerator as a safety valve during overloads. Despite this, the preferable approach is to resolve the root cause of frequent waste (for example, by improving sorting, balancing production rates, or adding dedicated storage) rather than relying solely on incineration.

Practical notes:

  • Place Incinerators at the end of secondary lines or at dedicated disposal nodes that collect rejects from sorting arrays and multi-output machines.
  • Combine with Sorters for selective destruction of specific items; use conditional routing to avoid accidentally burning needed resources.
  • Use Overflow/Underflow Gates to gate disposal behind capacity checks so waste is only destroyed when you lack alternatives.
  • Treat the Incinerator as a safety mechanism rather than a production tool; persistent use indicates a design or balance problem in your item flow.

The Incinerator is therefore a critical tool for maintaining stable logistics in complex factories, preventing small streams of unwanted items from cascading into full-scale blockages.
