Overview

Surge Alloy is a high-tech advanced material used in late-game construction and weaponry. It appears on Serpulo and Erekir and is produced by higher-tier smelting facilities. In the game it functions as a premium building component and as powerful turret ammunition, and it is commonly associated with electrical effects — its in-game properties include a high discharge characteristic and it is often used in electricity-focused defenses and reactors.

Surge Alloy’s in-game composition is given as roughly 33.33% lead, 25.00% copper, 25.00% silicon, and 16.66% titanium. Because of its copper content and frequent association with electrical systems, it has been suggested to behave like a superconductor in flavor, though this is descriptive rather than a separate mechanical effect. The item has a pale yellow color in the UI and is sometimes colloquially called “Cheese Alloy” or “Cheese” due to its appearance.

Surge Alloy is produced by advanced smelting buildings (listed production sources include Surge Smelter and Surge Crucible) and is classified as a relatively difficult-to-produce resource; it is intended for advanced construction and powerful turret ammunition rather than early-game use. It has zero explosive, burning, and radioactive properties and a high discharge rating (~75%).

Surge Alloy is required to build many late-game structures and units, including walls, power infrastructure, reactors, unit factories, and specialized defensive buildings. Notable constructions that require Surge Alloy include Surge Wall, Large Surge Wall, Reinforced Surge Wall, Large Reinforced Surge Wall, Shielded Wall, Overdrive Dome, Shockwave Tower, Surge Conveyor, Surge Router, Unit Cargo Loader, Surge Tower, Impact Reactor, Flux Reactor, Neoplasia Reactor, Advanced Cliff Crusher, Foreshadow, Spectre, Meltdown, Afflict, Smite, Hyper Processor, Tetrative Reconstructor and other high-end structures.

Surge Alloy is also used directly as ammunition for several heavy turrets and special weapons where it grants strong damage and electrical/area effects. When loaded as ammo it enables high direct and area damage profiles, often with lightning strikes and shock status effects; some ammo variants trade building damage for extreme single-target or burst damage.

Practical notes and strategy:

  • Prioritize securing consistent inputs (lead, copper, silicon, titanium or relevant equivalents on a map) and tiered smelters to maintain Surge Alloy production; its recipes are resource- and energy-heavy.
  • Use Surge Alloy primarily for critical defensive installations and specialized offensive turrets rather than mass production of basic structures. Save it for chokepoints, reactor builds, and mech/unit production that require it.
  • Because many Surge Alloy uses center on electrical effects and reactors, place Surge Tower and other power structures to support energy-hungry systems that consume or complement Surge Alloy components.
  • When used as ammo, expect strong area and elemental effects (lightning/shock); pair those turrets with targeting and range support (aiming platforms, routing) to maximize coverage and efficiency.
  • On maps where Surge Alloy is scarce, plan which structures receive it: walls and critical towers first, then production buildings or mechs as needed.
