Overview

Metaglass is an early-game industrial material used across factories, liquid-handling structures, power generation buildings, and several unit and turret constructions. It is produced in the Kiln and is a common mid-tier crafting component that enables many fluid and Plastanium-adjacent structures as well as some advanced manufacturing and naval production. Metaglass appears on the planet Serpulo as a standard resource component.

Metaglass is created from Lead and Sand in the Kiln. It has no explosive, burning, radioactive, or conductive properties listed and is a standard build material rather than a consumable hazard. Technical properties include an item ID of #2, an English ID of metaglass, a build time cost of 1.5, and a pale steel-glass color code shown in-game.

Metaglass is used to build a large set of structures and units. Notable buildings that require Metaglass include: Silicon Crucible, Plastanium Wall (Large), Armored Conveyor, Mechanical Pump, Rotary Pump, Thermal Pump, Duct, Pulse Duct, Plated Duct, Liquid Router, Liquid Junction, Liquid Tank, Bridge Duct, Phase Duct, Battery Diode, Thermal Generator, Differential Generator, Thorium Reactor, Impact Reactor, Water Extractor, Wave, Tsunami, Foreshadow, Naval Factory, and Logic Display (Large). Metaglass is also required in the construction of the Naval Factory (including Risso naval production) and is a component used when upgrading certain units up to tier three.

Metaglass is used as turret ammo for Scatter and Cyclone, supplying those weapons with a glass-reinforced projectile option.

Practical notes and strategies:

  • Produce Metaglass early via dedicated Kiln lines fed by Lead and Sand to support mass liquid-handling buildings and mid-tier power infrastructure.
  • Because many liquid-related buildings and ducts require Metaglass, prioritizing a steady Metaglass supply smooths expansion of oil, coolant, and water networks.
  • Metaglass is a common component for several generators and reactor variants; plan crafting queues accordingly to avoid stalling power upgrades.
  • Naval and unit-production facilities also use Metaglass; when building fleets or mass-producing certain units, scale Kiln output to match factory throughput.
  • As ammo for Scatter and Cyclone, Metaglass supplies can be diverted for defensive turrets during intense waves; consider buffer tanks or storage to avoid disrupting factory uses.

Trivia: The name Metaglass likely combines “metal” and “glass,” reflecting the material’s lead content. Historically, lead glass (often called flint glass) was valued for clarity before the health effects of lead were known. Metal-reinforced glass, such as wire-mesh glass, is used in real-world applications for fire resistance, which thematically matches Metaglass’s role in reinforced and liquid-handling constructions.
