Overview
Foreshadow is a 4x4 long-range artillery turret found on Serpulo that specializes in one-shotting high-HP units. It consumes
Foreshadow uses Surge Alloy ammo with a RailBulletType projectile that deals 1350 base damage and pierces units without per-unit damage loss; piercing only decays damage when striking blocks. The ammo applies a large negative building-damage modifier (−80%), so Foreshadow is much less efficient at destroying structures. In the game's update history, build 147 changed Surge Alloy to a rail-type projectile and added a 60% damage limit to prevent one shot from removing more than 60% of a target's max HP; build 154 later removed that 60% damage limit. The turret also had other tuning (coolant effectiveness and rotation speed changes) during the 6.x–7.x update cycle. Foreshadow requires a steady supply of Surge Alloy and power to operate, and a shot is relatively expensive in resource terms.
Foreshadow’s practical use and counters:
- Primary use is static defense against very large, slow, or high-HP units (for example,
Corvus,
Omura,
Reign). It excels at killing single high-value targets before they can reach inner defenses.
- Because a single shot focuses on one unit, Foreshadow is poor versus mass low-tier spam. Pairing Foreshadow with rapid-fire area turrets (
Cyclone,
Swarmer, or
Meltdown) covers its weakness to swarms and consumes enemy numbers so Foreshadow’s shots go to priority targets.
- Boosting: Overdrive Projectors and Overdrive Domes are more efficient ways to increase Foreshadow fire rate than liquid boosts such as Cryofluid; liquids consume rapidly and give smaller net benefit compared to overdrive boosting. Overdrive effects substantially increase fire rate and are the recommended way to make Foreshadows engage more often.
- Positioning: Foreshadow has the longest turret range on Serpulo. Place them to cover approach lanes and chokepoints; their slow rotation and low rate of fire mean they are vulnerable to getting baited or flanked if isolated.
- PvP and attack maps: In PvP, Foreshadow behaves like a sniper weapon—extremely long range, very high per-shot damage, and very low firing cadence. It is effective on very large maps where static, expensive defenses face endgame juggernauts. In attack-side maps, friendly forces must provide sustained healing (Repair Turrets, Velas) or high-HP bodies (
Oct, Reign) to soak Foreshadow shots.
- Ammunition interactions: Unlike some Surge Alloy users, Foreshadow does not apply Shocked or other Surge-induced status effects and thus does not receive bonus damage versus Wet units. It automatically prioritizes the bulkiest enemy units, so using pure deathball tactics to bait it is ineffective; instead, use distraction swarms or spawn cheap units at its range edge to bleed its expensive ammo and time its shots.
- Construction notes: Because each shot consumes significant Surge Alloy and power, a line of Foreshadows requires robust logistics (conveyors, unloaders, surge production) and power capacity to be sustainable. They are costly per-shot defenders and best used as part of layered defenses, not as lone, unsupported turrets.
Historical and balancing context: Foreshadow was introduced in the 6.0 update. Subsequent builds adjusted coolant interaction, rotation speed, and how Surge Alloy functions (rail projectile, pierce, temporary 60% damage-limit addition in build 147, which was later removed in build 154). These changes reflect ongoing tuning to balance its enormous single-shot potential against practical resource and tactical constraints.
