Overview

The Quad is a Tier 4 ground support unit that drops explosive bombs which both damage enemy ground targets and repair allied structures. Introduced in Version 6.0, the Quad functions as a mobile construction-and-assault platform: it can carry medium ground units and large quantities of items, place and rebuild structures, and perform repair runs while dealing area damage with its bombs. Quads cannot hit air targets and are specialized for destroying fragile ground infrastructure such as conveyors and factories or for enabling unconventional assaults by placing turrets, vaults, reactors, or other supplies inside enemy territory.

Mechanically, the Quad drops plasma bombs that deal area damage and apply a repair effect to friendly blocks. Its weapon fires at about 1.09 shots/sec, dealing 220 area damage over a roughly 10-tile diameter and providing about 15% repair on affected allied blocks. Bomb projectiles have a physical diameter of 10 tiles while Quads detect targets at a range of 17 blocks. The Quad’s cargo/payload was changed to a 3×3 block footprint, and current common unit stats include a movement speed of roughly 9 tiles/sec and an item capacity of 140 items. It automatically begins targeting enemies when detected, can be ordered to repair, rebuild, and assist the player from command mode, and no longer has the earlier command limit (removed in a past update).

Quads are fast and fragile compared to other Tier 4 units: they have the highest speed among Tier 4 ground units while sharing the lowest Tier 4 health with the Quell. Their name derives from the Latin prefix meaning “four,” and their design is likely based on the Trident player-upgrade ship from earlier versions that built faster and dropped repairing bombs. The Quad also appears as a playable character in Animdustry with an ability that destroys adjacent blocks, reflecting the unit’s surprising offensive utility despite its support role.

Practical notes and strategies:

  • Use Quads to sabotage enemy logistics by bombing conveyors, factories, and exposed reactors; they excel at destroying soft infrastructure and can pre-position supplies or turrets inside enemy lines to sustain sieges.
  • Carrying a loaded Thorium Reactor, Vault of Blast Compound, or liquid tanks can turn a Quad into a devastating improvised bomb: pick up high-explosive or volatile blocks and drop them inside the enemy base for massive destruction.
  • Quads cannot attack air, so pair them with air units or ranged AA defenders when facing enemy flyers. They handle lone light defenses but struggle against heavy anti-ground units.
  • Effective counters include the Force Projector (which negates their bomb damage entirely), swarmer/fast ground units like the Swarmer, Cyclone, and Spectre, and inexpensive Fuses; Antumbras can shoot Quads without retaliation and use their size to slow them.
  • When assigned to repair, Quads fly past targets and circle back, producing cyclical bombing/repair runs; this can be useful for area sustain but is less consistent than dedicated repair armies of Poly and Mega.
  • In PvP, Quads can circumvent choke points and construct Repair Points outside build-exclusion zones; early access to Plastanium and Phase Fabric to build your own Quads is a very strong response. Alternatively, perimeter defenses (Fuses, Foreshadow with Surge Alloy) and mobile counters are recommended.
  • For assaults on cores, a Quad can ferry one Tier 4 ground unit or several lower-tier units behind enemy lines; a sacrificial Quad parked over a core can deal substantial crash damage, especially if loaded with explosives.

The Quad is best employed as a surgical, high-speed support and assault tool: maximize its mobility and payload to create opportunities behind enemy lines rather than rely on it as a frontline tank.
