Overview

Mega is an airborne support unit designed primarily for repairing, building, transporting, and secondary combat support. It appears as a mid-tier air support craft that transitions the air support role from mining and base maintenance toward active battlefield assistance. Megas are relatively inexpensive compared to heavy support flyers like the Quad and are more survivable than fragile units such as the Poly, making them a core component of mid- and late-game defensive and logistical networks.

Megas carry a payload sized as a 2×2 block area and can load and unload units and blocks via command-mode orders. Their high build speed (notably cited at 260% build speed in coordinated groups) and rapid-fire healing lasers allow them to construct and repair structures extremely quickly and to keep defensive lines intact. They can pick up containers to massively increase item transport capacity relative to carrying items directly: containers can hold multiple item types and offer about five times the Mega’s capacity for a single item type. Megas can also carry Liquid Containers, which provide the only way on Serpulo to move liquids without conduits. When not repairing or building, Megas can be ordered to mine (including sand when player-controlled and the double-tap/click mine option is enabled).

Megas are equipped with two pairs of heal guns. The primary pair fires at 2 × 1.25 shots/sec, each dealing 10 damage and restoring 5.5% of a block’s health per hit; the secondary pair fires at 2 × 2 shots/sec, dealing 8 damage and restoring 3% of a block’s health per hit. Each laser bolt has an effective range of about 22.75 tiles, a projectile speed of 39 tiles/sec, and a lifetime of roughly 0.58 sec. Movement speed has been standardized to 18.75 tiles/sec (conversion applied in a past update). Megas will flee from enemies and have had their command limit removed in later updates, allowing more flexible squad control.

Practical usage and tactics:

  • Use groups of Megas to rapidly construct and repair: a formation of Megas can complete or restore nearly any block very quickly and can even reverse enemy progress in PvP by rebuilding.
  • Use Mega payloads to airdrop slow ground attackers into vulnerable enemy positions; they can carry and deploy units such as Fortress and Spiroct to threaten anti-air defenses—this gives Megas combat options that Zenith lacks.
  • Load containers onto Megas to transport large volumes or mixed resources efficiently; build a new container in-place after pickup to continue local storage while payloads are in transit.
  • Use command-mode commands like load units, load blocks, unload payload, repair, rebuild, assist player, mine, and loop unit transfer to automate logistics and rapid recovery of damaged units by pulling them back to repair clusters.
  • Megas can mine sand when controlled by a player if the appropriate option is enabled, expanding their utility on certain maps.

Weaknesses and counters:

  • Megas have relatively low health and armor and must avoid concentrated anti-air fire; piercing and splash projectiles (for example, from Vela and Corvus units) can destroy groups quickly.
  • Large swarms of enemy Megas can out-heal incoming damage, so they must be targeted and destroyed rather than merely distracted in PvP.
  • Zenith, designed for combat rather than support, is effective at countering Megas; high-damage tier 4 units produced with the Exponential Reconstructor will also eliminate Megas rapidly.
  • Megas can attack bases directly if they have no cores to tend, exhibiting unpredictable movement similar to Poly; pairing them with defensive units or using your own Megas/Polys can mitigate these assaults.

Historical notes: Megas were added in an early major update and have received several balance and feature changes over time (range and healing adjustments, conversion of speed and payload units, increased command functionality). The Mega’s sprite was composed from earlier Trident ships, and it shares its firing sound with the Nova.
