Official description

Instantly transports items over terrain or buildings. Longer range than the item bridge, but requires power.

Overview

Phase Conveyor is a transport block that instantly transmits items across terrain and buildings, functioning like an extended-range version of the Bridge Conveyor while retaining nearly all of the same mechanics. It appears in the same technological context as other advanced logistics blocks and is intended for long-distance, obstacle-ignoring item routing where conveyor placement or terrain would normally block a standard Conveyor or Bridge Conveyor. Phase Conveyors cannot link to or be linked by Bridge Conveyors.

A Phase Conveyor accepts inputs from every side except the side that is connected to another Phase Conveyor. Each Phase Conveyor can be configured to move items into at most one other Phase Conveyor; however, there is no limit on how many Phase Conveyors can send items into a given Phase Conveyor. If a Phase Conveyor is set as a destination for another but does not itself have a destination, it will distribute incoming items evenly to any sides that are not connected to other Phase Conveyors. When a Phase Conveyor only distributes items locally (and does not forward them to another Phase Conveyor), it does not require power; when it is actively transporting items to another Phase Conveyor it needs some power and will operate at a reduced transfer rate if supplied with insufficient power.

Configuring connections is done by selecting a Phase Conveyor and then clicking another Phase Conveyor up to 11 tiles away in a cardinal direction; this sets or removes the transport destination. Clicking a Phase Conveyor that already uses the first as its destination will reverse the transfer direction. When drag-placing Phase Conveyors, the placement planner attempts to space them 11 tiles apart to optimize cost and coverage; as a result, all but the last block in a dragged line will be spaced 11 tiles apart when possible. Unlike Bridge Conveyors, Phase Conveyors are not automatically placed over obstacles when drag-placing conveyors, so placement requires explicit positioning.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • Phase Conveyors share core behavior with Bridge Conveyors but extend range and routing flexibility for multi-segment point-to-point networks.
  • A Phase Conveyor can receive inputs from multiple adjacent blocks, but it can only forward to a single configured Phase Conveyor destination.
  • Power affects throughput: supply adequate power to maintain full transfer speed; low power reduces transfer rate but does not entirely stop transfer if any power is present.
  • Use destinationless Phase Conveyors to act as passive distributors that feed adjacent non-Phase outputs without consuming power.
  • Drag-placing is optimized for spacing; plan networks with the 11-tile linking limit in mind to avoid accidental gaps.
  • Phase Conveyors cannot form links with Bridge Conveyors; plan separate networks for each type.
  • High-throughput setups can be built by weaving multiple Phase Conveyor chains: twelve interleaved chains can yield 372 items/s baseline throughput, which rises to 930 items/s with an Overdrive Dome and to 1080 items/s under a friendly Navanax EMP.

History and changes:

  • Phase Conveyor was added in an earlier unspecified build.
  • As of build 149, its movement speed and item capacity stats are visible in the core database.
