Vampire

Overview
Vampires are monsters that appear in Forest Caves and Snow Caves. They are unusual because they can transform between two forms: a humanoid form and a bat form. In humanoid form, a Vampire stands still and fires a blood bolt-like projectile. In bat form, it travels quickly and closes distance to its target.
When a player is out of range or line of sight, a Vampire changes into a bat, flies closer, and then transforms back into humanoid form to attack with blood bolts. This makes it a mobile ranged enemy that is most dangerous when it can repeatedly reset its position and re-engage from nearby.
Vampires also have a dedicated mini biome called a Vampire Crypt, where they spawn much more frequently. This makes the crypt the most reliable place to encounter them compared with ordinary cave generation.
- Their two-form behavior means they can be difficult to keep at a distance, since they will often switch to bat form instead of staying put.
- Breaking line of sight can cause them to advance by flying, so terrain alone does not fully prevent engagement.
- The Vampire Crypt is the best place to farm or repeatedly fight them because of their much higher spawn rate there.
