Fish Trap
Overview
Fish Trap is a critter-catching building used to capture Pacu and hold them until they can be transported elsewhere. Once a fish is trapped, it is automatically bagged for transport, making the building a convenient way to move live fish without having to wrangle them manually.
Fish Traps are reusable and can be deconstructed to refund their material cost, which makes them much less wasteful than the older version of the building. Before the Song of the Moo Update, Fish Trap was single-use only, did not refund its cost, and was built from 200 kg of Plastic, a drawback that could be especially troublesome in hot environments. The modern version avoids that permanent loss, so the building can be reused repeatedly as long as it is not destroyed.
Although the tooltip emphasizes swimming Pacu, the trap can also catch Pacu that are flopping on land, such as ones printed from the Printing Pod before they reach water. This makes it useful not only for pond fishing setups but also for rescuing fish that have ended up out of place. Critter Traps can also capture flopping Pacu, so Fish Trap is not the only option for that situation.
A few practical notes are worth keeping in mind:
- Fish Trap can capture Pacu both in water and while they are struggling on land.
- Trapped fish are automatically packaged for transport.
- Because the building is reusable, deconstructing it refunds its materials.
- In older versions of the game, the building was consumed on use and did not refund anything.
- If a Duplicant carrying a Pacu switches to another task before finishing the transport, the fish is dropped on the ground immediately, wasting the Plastic used to make the Fish Trap.
In practice, Fish Trap is most valuable when you want to relocate Pacu safely and with minimal handling. It is especially useful in ranching or pond-management setups where keeping fish contained matters more than simply trapping them once. Since it can work on both swimming and stranded Pacu, it provides a flexible way to clean up loose fish and move them into a controlled aquatic environment.
