Payload Opener

Payload Opener is a logistics building used to unpack delivered cargo without requiring any Duplicant interaction. It can be connected into a broader sorting system, and sources describe it as working with conveyors, plumbing, and ventilation to improve resource distribution. In practice, this makes it useful as an automated intake point for materials that arrive in sealed payloads and need to be routed into storage or processing systems.

A Payload Opener can unpack up to 10 interstellar payloads per cycle, with a total throughput of 2 tons. During the unpacking process, it cannot be fed additional interstellar payloads, so it is best treated as a limited-capacity batch processor rather than a continuously accepting buffer. For automation, it is commonly paired with a Targeting Beacon and an Auto-Sweeper to create a fully automated unpacking setup.

Because the automation port does not respond, control must come from the surrounding logistics setup rather than direct automation signaling. This makes placement important: the Payload Opener is best installed where payloads can arrive reliably and where unpacked contents can immediately enter the appropriate transport network.
