Oxylite Refinery

Overview

The Oxylite Refinery is a resource-intensive building used to convert oxygen into Oxylite, a solid and easily transportable source of consumable oxygen. Its primary role is producing solid oxidizer for Rockets, but it can also help relieve excess oxygen production by turning gas into a form that is easier to store and move than gaseous oxygen.

Compared to Dense Pufts, the Oxylite Refinery converts oxygen into Oxylite with slightly better efficiency, producing at a 100% conversion rate instead of 95%. In exchange, it consumes Gold, requires a large amount of power, and generates significant heat. It is generally more reliable, less labor-intensive, and takes up less space than Puft farming, making it a practical mid- to late-game oxygen logistics option.

  • The building consumes 1.2 kW constantly, regardless of how much oxygen is being processed.
  • It dumps produced Oxylite on the ground in front of it when internal storage reaches 10 kg.
  • Because the Oxylite is dropped outside the building, it can sublimate quickly if left exposed, wasting material.
  • A shallow liquid pool, with a recessed area for a Storage Bin, can help capture and store the output before it evaporates.
  • The refinery can theoretically be run as net heat-negative because it deletes some mass, but the effect is too small to be practical; its main heat-related advantage is limiting the building’s static heat output.
  • Feeding it pre-heated oxygen is still useful, since it helps reduce the building’s overall heat burden.
