Orbital Data Collection Lab

The Orbital Data Collection Lab is a Science Building used to generate research data while a rocket is in space. It records data while the rocket is orbiting a planetoid and writes that data to a Data Bank, helping progress toward advanced research.

It must be built inside a rocket’s Spacefarer Module or Solo Spacefarer Nosecone. Once the rocket has launched and is suspended in orbit or traveling between destinations, a duplicant with the Data Analysis Research skill can use it. Creating data disks is an Operate task, so its priority should be raised if you want the building to be worked promptly.

As a Science Building, it gains a +10% efficiency bonus when placed inside a Laboratory.

A few practical notes:

• The building only works while the rocket is in orbit around a planetoid.
• It requires at least one skilled duplicant aboard the rocket to begin producing research data.
• Since disk production is an Operate task, low operation priority can delay progress.
• Because each data disk contributes to research progress, consistent uptime matters more than speed bursts.
