Orbital Cargo Module

Overview

The Orbital Cargo Module is a 3-tile-wide, 2-tile-high storage building used on rockets to bring supplies with you when exploring unknown worlds. It provides a way to load cargo for space missions and can be filled either by a Duplicant or by an Auto-Sweeper. Its purpose is simple: it gives rockets a place to carry extra resources so expeditions are not forced to run entirely on what is already aboard.

The module’s storage access point is located at the second row, second tile, which corresponds to the lower middle position of the building. This matters when placing the module, since nearby access and automation should be arranged with that footprint in mind. Because it can be loaded both manually and by automation, it fits well into either fully staffed rocket operations or more automated supply chains.

A few practical behaviors are worth keeping in mind:

  • After a rocket lands, an Auto-Sweeper can fail to recognize the Orbital Cargo Module and will not load its contents.
  • Interacting with the module again, such as reselecting its settings or choosing another option, restores Auto-Sweeper recognition.
  • Duplicants are not affected by this issue and can still complete storage tasks for the module even when the Auto-Sweeper cannot recognize it.
  • A Duplicant performing a storage task also refreshes the module’s storage check, which makes it recognizable again by the Auto-Sweeper.
  • Reloading a save also refreshes the storage check.

In practice, this means the Orbital Cargo Module is reliable for manual loading, but automated loading may need a nudge after a landing cycle. If a rocket returns and the Auto-Sweeper stops interacting with the module, simply changing the module’s assignment or letting a Duplicant touch the task will usually restore normal behavior.
