Hand Sanitizer

Hand Sanitizer is a sanitation building that kills germs more effectively than a Wash Basin. It is a compact alternative to other hand-cleaning stations, making it useful when space is tight. Unlike water-based sanitation, it does not consume water and does not produce Polluted Water, but it does require Bleach Stone as its operating resource.

Because it is more germ-killing efficient than a Wash Basin, Hand Sanitizer is often chosen when the goal is direct germ control rather than water recycling. A Wash Basin or Sink paired with a Water Sieve can form a closed water loop, using only a small amount of power and filtration medium, while Hand Sanitizer instead depends on the comparatively limited supply of Bleach Stone. Stored Bleach Stone inside the building does not off-gas, so it is safe while installed and stocked normally.

There are a few practical cases where Hand Sanitizer is especially useful:

• It takes less space than wash-based alternatives, so it is commonly used in bathroom setups.
• It is a good fit for confined rooms such as a Spacefarer Module, where every tile matters.
• In a Spacefarer Module, the radiation present there is enough to kill all germs on Duplicants’ surfaces in a short time, so the Hand Sanitizer can be disabled to save resources and reduce hand-cleaning time.
• If a Duplicant is delivering Bleach Stone and the task is interrupted, the material can be dropped in transit and off-gas into Chlorine Gas.

Even so, Hand Sanitizer is not always necessary for germ removal. Ensuring that Duplicants wash after using the toilet is enough to remove all surface germs regardless of which sanitation building is used. This makes Hand Sanitizer more of a convenience and space-saving option than a requirement in most base layouts.
