Sink

Overview

The Sink is a plumbed sanitation building used to remove germs from Duplicants. Unlike manually operated wash stations, it is connected to the liquid pipe network and does not need to be emptied or refilled by hand. It is used only when a Duplicant is carrying germs, making it a targeted hygiene building rather than a general-purpose water fixture.

When used, the Sink consumes 5 kg of liquid per use and converts it into the same mass of Polluted Water. The process takes 5 seconds. Duplicants are cleaned of germs even if the incoming liquid itself contains germs, but the unit also sprays germs onto the Duplicant when it is used. Because of this, the Sink is meant to fit into a larger sanitation setup rather than serve as a complete decontamination solution by itself.

A few practical points are important when using it:

  • The Sink only activates when the Duplicant has germs on them.
  • It requires a liquid supply through pipes and outputs to the liquid system rather than holding contents internally.
  • If a liquid other than water is pumped into it, such as Polluted Water, the building is damaged.
  • Water consumption and output can be slightly higher than the listed amount for unknown reasons.
  • It is part of the same family of plumbed sanitation buildings as other pipe-connected hygiene fixtures.

Because the Sink only triggers for germ-carrying Duplicants, it is useful for controlling the spread of disease at checkpoints or between dirty and clean areas. Since it outputs Polluted Water, it should be placed where that byproduct can be collected and processed. If the liquid line is not kept to water-based input, the Sink can be damaged, so sanitation loops should be designed carefully.

In earlier versions, the Sink shared its texture with the Wash Basin and also had the same negative Decor rating.
