Blastshot Maker
Overview
The Blastshot Maker is a duplicant-operated crafting building used to produce Blastshot shells, which are an effective defense against incoming meteor showers. It consumes 960 W of power and takes petroleum delivered through liquid pipes while operating. The building is five tiles wide, with duplicant interaction at the bottom-middle tile, and finished products are dropped on the floor at the fourth tile from the left.
Despite its description referring broadly to refined metals, only Iron, Copper, Aluminum, and Cobalt can actually be used to craft Blastshot. The building can also store up to 100 kg of petroleum internally, as well as 50 kg of each selected refined metal recipe ingredient. One operating cycle takes 80 seconds, reduced by the duplicant’s Machinery attribute; lighting also affects production time. At Machinery 0 and with no light, producing one batch of 5 Blastshot takes 80 seconds and releases 1000 g of Carbon Dioxide. Faster production likewise reduces the amount of Carbon Dioxide emitted.
The Blastshot Maker has no shipping input, so its solid ingredients must be delivered by duplicants. This makes sustained production harder to automate than many other mid- to late-game buildings, especially when multiple recipes are being supplied manually. A continuously operating machine can produce up to 37.5 products per cycle at zero Machinery, but only under ideal conditions and with uninterrupted delivery of materials.
- Petroleum must be piped in as a liquid input while the building is running.
- The output is created in batches of 5, not as single shells.
- Because the interaction point is centered low on the structure, motion sensors placed to either side will not reliably detect a working duplicant; a sensor must be placed above the building if detection is needed.
- The building’s footprint and output drop point matter when designing cramped production rooms, since items appear on the floor rather than being output to a container or chute.
Blastshot are especially useful in colonies preparing for meteor showers, where they serve as a direct defensive ammunition option. Since the recipe materials are limited to specific refined metals, keeping a dedicated supply line of the approved metals and petroleum simplifies production and prevents idle time.
