Robo-Miner

Overview

Robo-Miner is a deployable mining building that excavates tiles within its working range, allowing players to automate digging in areas that would be awkward or unsafe for Duplicants. Its range can be viewed at any time by selecting the building, making it easy to plan tunnels and target specific terrain before power or access constraints become a problem.

One of its most useful traits is that it can mine through line-of-sight gaps, including diagonal openings and closed Pneumatic Doors. This lets a Robo-Miner clear tiles from inside a sealed room, so it can be used to mine out enclosed pockets of material without breaching the entire structure. In practice, this makes it valuable for controlled excavation, especially when preserving atmosphere or isolating hazardous zones matters.

A notable historical limitation was that Robo-Miner could not mine through open Mechanized Airlocks or Bunker Doors for a long period after it was introduced, which made it difficult to collect meteor chunks unaffected by gravity. That behavior was later corrected in the U47-559498 test branch update.

  • Selecting the building shows its working range immediately.
  • It can reach through diagonal openings and closed Pneumatic Doors.
  • It can clear tiles from within sealed rooms.
  • The inability to mine through open Mechanized Airlocks and Bunker Doors was fixed in U47-559498.
