Command Capsule

Overview

The Command Capsule is the rocket’s control building. It is where at least one astronaut must be assigned in order to pilot a rocket, and it serves as the interface between the crew and the rocket’s launch systems. When the rocket checklist is complete, the capsule signals that the rocket is ready to take off, and it can also receive a launch command through automation.

The capsule has one automation output port and one automation input port. The output port reports the rocket’s launch-ready state, and it stays green until the rocket leaves the map. The input port accepts a green signal to trigger launch. A common automation setup is to connect the output port to a FILTER Gate, then connect the gate back to the input port. This delays launch by a set number of seconds after the rocket becomes ready, giving gantries time to retract and any unused fuel in the pipes time to flow back to storage. This does not solve gantry retraction or fuel handling by itself; those systems still need their own automation.

A Duplicant inside the Command Capsule does not need life support and will not leave unless the player gives input, which makes the building usable as a suspended animation chamber. The Sight-Seeing Module has the same effect, but without requiring any setup to keep the occupant alive or contained.

  • At least one astronaut must be assigned to the Command Capsule to fly the rocket.
  • The output port remains green until the rocket has fully departed the map.
  • A FILTER Gate can be used to create a short automatic launch delay after the checklist is complete.
  • The delay is useful for retracting gantries and draining fuel lines before liftoff.
  • A Duplicant wearing a Jet Suit can enter the Command Capsule without a gantry, but cannot exit without one.
