Comfy Bed

Overview

The Comfy Bed is a higher-tier sleeping furniture item used by Duplicants instead of a Cot. It improves sleep quality and is generally the preferred option when a base has enough space and plastic to spare. Duplicants recover more stamina when sleeping in a Comfy Bed, and they wake up more rested than they do from a Cot.

Compared with a Cot, the Comfy Bed is wider and costs 200 kg of plastic per bed, which makes it a more expensive and space-intensive upgrade. Because it takes up twice as much room, replacing Cots with Comfy Beds can increase base size and travel time if the layout was not planned around them. It also provides less decor than a Cot and a Masterwork Blank Canvas in the same space, so the tradeoff is not purely positive unless the extra sleep efficiency matters more than decor value.

The main gameplay advantage of the Comfy Bed is that it improves room-based morale when used in higher-tier bedrooms. A Private Bedroom provides +2 morale compared to a Barracks, while a Luxury Barracks provides +1 morale. In practice, Comfy Beds are most attractive when you are already meeting room requirements and want to squeeze more morale out of a sleeping area. In a bedroom, several Comfy Beds grant the same stamina recovery rate as Cots in a Barracks, while a single Comfy Bed in a Private Bedroom can let a Duplicant spend roughly 6 extra seconds per cycle awake because it raises stamina recovery to 1230%/cycle.

A few practical points make Comfy Beds especially useful:

  • They negate the Loud Sleeper trait because the bed is wide enough to handle it.
  • For radiation exposure, a sleeping Duplicant is considered to be in the middle-left cell of the bed.
  • They are best used when the colony has already planned for the extra footprint, since their wider layout is the main downside.
  • If you are choosing purely between sleep quality and space efficiency, Cots remain the compact option, while Comfy Beds are the premium upgrade for colonies that can afford the footprint and plastic.

Overall, the Comfy Bed is a straightforward comfort upgrade: better rest, better room morale potential, and a clean solution for Loud Sleepers, at the cost of plastic and a larger room footprint.
