Communal Table
Overview
Communal Table is a dining building used by Duplicants when they have the option to eat together. Rather than being a functional machine, it is a social fixture: when a Mess Table is available, Duplicants prefer to dine with friends instead of eating elsewhere.
Its main role is to provide a place for meal breaks and to support the appearance of a shared dining area. The interaction is not just cosmetic; the table’s seating behavior matters for pathing and room layout. Duplicants do not actually sit on the far-left, center, or far-right tiles shown in the animation. The usable eating positions are the middle three tiles of the table area. If the space above the corresponding position is blocked, Duplicants cannot use that eating spot.
- Duplicants prefer to eat at a Communal Table when one is available.
- The table supports group dining rather than solitary meals.
- The visual animation can be misleading: the effective dining positions are the middle three tiles, not the apparent outer ones.
- Blocked space above a dining position prevents a Duplicant from using that spot.
For base design, this means the area above and around the table should be kept clear if you want Duplicants to reliably take their meals there.
