Temporal Tear Opener

Overview

Temporal Tear Opener is a late-game space structure found on the Tundra Asteroid in the Starmap. It is tied to the end of a colony’s progression and serves as the machine used to open the Temporal Tear, triggering a meteor event when activated. Its description promises “infinite possibilities” with a complimentary meteor shower.

The building must have a clear view of space to operate, and it also requires at least 5 activated Printing Pods somewhere in the world before it can accept input. Its required sky exposure is described differently across sources: one states it needs 5 tiles of line of sight to the sky, while another gives it 3 tiles of vision that must all receive sunlight. In either case, the important practical point is that it must see open sky. Because the building does not block light, it is possible to place a Solar Panel directly underneath it.

Once these conditions are met, Temporal Tear Opener can receive radbolts through its input. During startup it consumes 5 radbolts per second, and after a total of 10,000 radbolts have been delivered, it becomes fully charged and the Fire button appears. Activating Fire causes the structure to emit a beam and open the Temporal Tear, after which the asteroid is hit by one or more meteor showers of Fullerene meteors.

  • It is not immediately usable when found; the colony must first satisfy the Printing Pod requirement and provide a clear line of sight to space.
  • Since the building can sit above a Solar Panel without blocking light, the area beneath it can still be used efficiently.
  • The startup cost is significant, so supplying a stable radbolt source is the main logistical challenge.
  • Firing it is a one-time activation event that changes the local asteroid by starting the meteor shower sequence.
