Crashed Satellite

Overview

Crushed Satellite is a space structure that represents the remains of a once peacefully orbiting satellite. It appears as a broken orbital object rather than a functional building, and its main gameplay significance comes from the radiation it emits.

Crushed Satellites emit radiation from the bottom-center tile, with the radiation intensity falling off by about 200 rads per cycle per tile as it spreads outward. This makes them a useful and reliable source of ambient radiation for colonies that want to induce plant mutations or feed Radbolt Generators without relying on more active nuclear infrastructure.

Because the radiation is centered on the lower middle of the object and dissipates over distance, positioning matters. Duplicants or plants closer to the source receive far more exposure than those placed farther away, so players can use the satellite as a controlled radiation landmark rather than a broad-area hazard. In practice, this makes it especially valuable for setups that need a steady background level of radiation over time.

The object is best treated as a passive utility feature of the map rather than something to be interacted with directly. If a colony is built around radiation-dependent agriculture or power systems, a Crushed Satellite can serve as a convenient anchor for that design.
