Critter Cargo Bay

Overview

The Critter Cargo Bay is a transport building used to move Critters without exposing them to normal care requirements during transit. It holds a single Critter, and while inside, that Critter still counts as part of the room the cargo bay is placed in. Critters do not need to be fed while traveling, and they continue to age normally even though they do not eat, lay eggs, or produce resources during transport.

Because the Critter remains physically present in the cargo bay, it still interacts with its surroundings in important ways. It exchanges heat with the gas environment around the building, so if the Critter’s body temperature moves outside its survival range, it will die. If the cargo bay is submerged in liquid, Critters that can drown will drown even though the drowning status is not shown. If a Critter dies and would normally drop something, the cargo bay door opens and releases the drop. If a rocket crashes landing while carrying Critters, they die as well; any resulting drop is spawned in the rocket debris and falls with it.

The building has a few notable interactions with specific Critters and room effects:

  • A Critter inside a Critter Cargo Bay still counts toward the room it is in.
  • A Noble Drecko inside a Critter Cargo Bay still affects the egg-laying chances of Puft and its variants in the same room.
  • Critters inside a Critter Cargo Bay do not lay eggs, do not become hungry, and do not produce resources, but they continue aging normally.
  • If a Critter Cargo Bay is in Hydrogen Gas and contains Drecko or its variants, they can still grow scales normally.
  • Critters inside a Critter Cargo Bay exchange heat with the surrounding gas and can die from temperature extremes.
  • Drownable Critters submerged in liquid will drown without the drowning indicator being shown.
  • If a Critter dies and has a drop item, the cargo bay opens and releases that drop.
  • On a rocket crash landing, Critters inside die, and their drops are generated in the rocket debris if applicable.

This makes the Critter Cargo Bay useful for controlled Critter transport, but it is not a safe holding method for extended exposure to dangerous temperatures or liquids. It preserves room interactions and certain special effects, so it should be used with the same environmental awareness as a normal habitat, especially when moving Drecko, Puft, or other Critters with sensitive survival conditions.
