The main river flows from the high ground in the corner with a current strong enough to overflow single-tile channels. Be careful when trying to divert Badwater at the fork near the starting area; the diversion route has several single-tile bottlenecks, causing some Badwater to spill back into the main river.

Overview

Craters is a map in Timberborn that was introduced in Update 4 and later received the Badwater feature in Update 5. The map’s central water system is dominated by a main river that originates on high ground in a corner of the map. That river has a strong current capable of overflowing single-tile channels, which shapes how water management must be approached on this map.

The main river forms a fork near the starting area where a secondary flow called Badwater can be diverted. The diversion route for Badwater contains several single-tile bottlenecks. Those bottlenecks permit some Badwater to spill back into the main river when flow control is not robust, so attempts to reroute or contain Badwater require careful planning to avoid unwanted overflow and loss of control over river paths.

  • Plan water channels to avoid relying on single-tile conduits where the current is strong; the main river will overflow narrow channels. Wider or backup channels reduce the risk of spillback.
  • Exercise caution when diverting Badwater at the fork near the starting area. The diversion route includes multiple single-tile bottlenecks that allow flow to spill back into the main river if not managed.
  • Anticipate high upstream pressure from the high-ground source in the corner. Water engineering solutions need to account for the river’s tendency to push through narrow passages.

These features make Craters a map where early water engineering decisions have lasting impact. Effective control of the main river and careful handling of the Badwater diversion are the defining challenges players face on this map.
