Overview

The Core Sentry is a hostile creature native to the Forlorn Metropolis. Active Core Sentries patrol the area and can be found alongside inactive Damaged Core Sentry statues, which do not drop loot. Core Sentries also primarily spawn on Urban Moss placed in any biome, so player-made setups can trigger them outside the Metropolis as well.

When approached or attacked, a Core Sentry begins to glow and advances on the player while using a ranged attack: it fires three shockwaves of light in a spread. The shockwaves can be blocked by hiding behind walls or other solid objects, but they can still damage furniture if they hit placed objects. In close range, the Core Sentry can also kick nearby players. A nearby Caveling Scholar can heal it, which makes supporting enemies in the area more dangerous if left unchecked.

Before engaging one, it is useful to tell a genuine Core Sentry apart from a static damaged statue. Hostile Core Sentries have no vines or plant growths on them, and they may be seen getting pushed around by other enemies. This makes them easier to identify in busy rooms where several decorative or ruined sentry forms are present.

Practical notes:

  • Use cover to avoid the three-wave light attack; corners, pillars, and walls are effective.
  • Keep moving when fighting in open rooms, since the ranged attack is the Core Sentry’s main threat at medium distance.
  • Do not ignore nearby Caveling Scholars, as their healing can prolong the fight.
  • Damaged Core Sentry statues are not active enemies and drop no loot.
  • Urban Moss can be used to force Core Sentry spawns, so be careful when placing it in controlled areas.

Its behavior makes it one of the more dangerous standard enemies in the Forlorn Metropolis, especially in corridors where its ranged attack can be harder to dodge and its melee kick can punish players who get too close.
