Caveling Mummy

Overview
The Caveling Mummy is an uncommon enemy native to the Desert of Beginnings. It is one of the Caveling variants encountered in that biome and is notable for attacking at range rather than using any separate melee strike.
Its attack consists of summoning 7 purple rifts in a straight line toward the player. Spikes then emerge from the rifts one at a time, beginning with the rift closest to the Caveling Mummy. This makes the attack pattern predictable, but also dangerous in narrow spaces because the damage can travel across a line rather than through a single point of impact.
A Caveling Mummy does not have a distinct melee attack, so its threat comes entirely from the rift sequence. The attack can still be troublesome if you try to break line of sight by moving behind a wall: once the attack has started, the rifts will pass through walls, so simply stepping behind cover does not stop the pattern.
- The rift line is created in the player’s direction, with spikes appearing sequentially from the mummy’s side first.
- Since the attack ignores walls after it begins, open terrain does not offer a major advantage over cover if the mummy has already started casting.
- Avoid lingering directly in front of it during the summon animation, as the rifts extend along a fixed line.
Caveling Mummies have also been present in the game’s files since version 0.5.0.0-9b96. Before 1.0, they existed as an unspawnable clone of the Infected Caveling, with no artwork and an early version of the rift attack.
