Dirt

Overview
Dirt is a basic block in Mindustry that serves as one of the simplest terrain tiles. It appears naturally on several maps and is used primarily as walkable ground and as a cheap, easily placed filler when building out bases or redirecting unit movement.
Dirt does not provide any special effects, resource production, or defense properties beyond forming part of the map's terrain and enabling pathing for ground units.
Dirt interacts with the game world like other floor and block tiles: it can be built over, removed, and replaced by construction. Because it is a low-tier block, players use
Dirt when they need a minimal-cost, non-functional tile to complete layouts, bridge gaps in flooring, or cover exposed conveyors and foundations temporarily.
Dirt does not require power, items, or liquids to operate and it does not accept ammo or other inputs.
Practical notes and usage:
- Use
Dirt to fill gaps or extend walkable areas cheaply while expanding early bases or building temporary bridges for units.
Dirt is suitable for temporary scaffolding beneath turrets, conveyors, or walls until more advanced blocks are available.
Dirt does not provide cooling, shielding, or any bonus versus attacks; replace it with stronger blocks (concrete, plastanium, etc.) where durability matters.- Pathfinding treats
Dirt as normal ground for wheeled and legged units; place it to influence unit routes in a pinch. - Because
Dirt has no inputs or outputs, it is safe to use beneath buildings that do not need specific foundations or conduits.
