Automation Wire

Overview
Automation Wire is a basic automation conduit used to carry logic signals between sensors, switches, gates, and other automation-compatible buildings. It is part of the game’s automation system, which lets players control machinery, doors, shutoffs, and other devices based on conditions such as time, pressure, occupancy, or manual input.
Automation Wire can be run through wall and floor tiles, making it easy to route control lines through a base without leaving them exposed in open space. It is also part of the larger set of automation buildings introduced alongside logic gates, sensors, and shutoffs, and many existing buildings were retrofitted with automation ports so they can be controlled from a circuit.
A few practical points matter when using it:
- Automation signals have bit depth, and sending a signal with a higher bit depth than the connected Logic Wire can damage the circuit.
- If the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th bits are all green, the circuit takes overloading damage.
- Because it can be embedded in tiles, Automation Wire is useful for clean routing between rooms and around infrastructure.
- When crossing other wires without connecting the circuits, use the appropriate bridge building rather than laying wires directly over each other.
Automation Wire is the simplest piece of automation infrastructure, but it is also the foundation for more advanced logic networks. It becomes especially useful once a colony begins using sensors to automate machines, control resource flow, or manage access to dangerous areas.
