Jet Suit Dock

Overview

The Jet Suit Dock is a building used to service Jet Suits. It can refill a suit with air and fuel, or empty it of waste, keeping suits ready for continued use without manual handling. In practice it functions as the maintenance station for jet suit logistics, similar to a resupply and cleanup point for the equipment.

A Jet Suit Dock stores only one Jet Suit at a time, so multiple suits require multiple docks if they are to be maintained in parallel. It must be built adjacent to a Jet Suit Checkpoint, or adjacent to another Jet Suit Dock that is itself part of a chain connected to a Jet Suit Checkpoint. This makes dock placement important when laying out a jet suit system, since the entire line still has to connect back to the checkpoint.

The dock requires oxygen, petroleum, and power to operate. Supplying the wrong gas or liquid causes element damage, so the input lines need to be set up carefully. Power is only consumed when the dock is actively filling a suit with air or fuel, which makes its idle cost effectively zero once no suit is being serviced.

Because the Jet Suit itself is extremely slow in flight, roughly comparable to climbing a Fire Pole upward, its usefulness is limited outside specialized tasks such as rocket servicing. Jet Suits also have a noticeable performance cost: they can significantly affect FPS because they extend pathfinding trees. For that reason, they are best used in enclosed sections where movement is tightly controlled.

When using Jet Suits in the Space Biome, extra care is needed if you are trying to seal off an area. Duplicants can fly through spaces that are not blocked by a building if there is no regolith preventing the route, so an enclosure may not behave as expected unless the path is physically obstructed. Planning the terrain and placing blocks appropriately is important if you want to keep jet suit traffic contained.

  • A Jet Suit Dock holds only one Jet Suit.
  • It must be adjacent to a Jet Suit Checkpoint, or connected through other Jet Suit Docks in the same chain.
  • It uses oxygen, petroleum, and power when actively filling or refueling a suit.
  • Supplying other elements can damage the building.
  • Power is consumed only while the dock is refilling or refueling a Jet Suit.
  • Jet Suits are slow enough that their use is generally limited to specialized roles.
  • Jet Suits can reduce performance because of pathfinding overhead.
  • In the Space Biome, regolith may be needed to prevent Duplicants from slipping through non-building gaps when enclosing an area.
