Radiant Liquid Pipe

Overview

The Radiant Liquid Pipe is a high-conductivity version of the standard Liquid Pipe. It is made from refined metals and other highly conductive materials, and its thermal conductivity is doubled by comparison with the material used to build it. Its melting point is the same as the construction material’s melting point, so the choice of material determines both heat transfer performance and heat resistance.

Because of that strong conductivity, Radiant Liquid Pipe is commonly used as part of cooling loops and other heat-management systems. Running cold liquid through hot areas lets the pipe absorb heat from its surroundings and help cool those regions down. It works best when the liquid inside is significantly cooler than the environment, and it is especially useful for moving coolant through industrial rooms, power plants, or other concentrated heat sources.

A few practical points make it especially effective:

  • The pipe’s thermal conductivity is the conductivity of the material it is made from.
  • Its heat exchange behavior is otherwise the same as a normal Liquid Pipe.
  • It can exchange heat directly with the liquid inside the pipe.
  • Since the pipe’s conductivity is usually much higher than the liquid’s, the liquid’s own conductivity has little effect on the rate of heat exchange between the pipe and its contents.
  • The pipe’s heat tolerance depends entirely on the chosen material; for example, materials such as Aluminum, Copper, Gold, Iron, Lead, Steel, Tungsten, Niobium, and Thermium each produce different conductivity and melting-point results.

Radiant Liquid Pipe is therefore best understood as a heat-transfer tool first and a transport pipe second. It is ideal when the path of a liquid line matters not only for routing, but also for actively moving heat away from a target area.
