Cassettes

Overview
Cassettes are music items used to play new tracks through a Boom Box. When a player is near an active boom box, the current background music in the world fades out and the cassette’s track takes over. Their volume is affected by the Music Volume setting, so the experience can be adjusted through the audio options.
Cassettes can be used in both the Boom Box sold by Jimmy on his boat and the Festive Boom Box sold by Nick in December. They can also be placed down like furniture, making them both a functional music item and a display object. A hidden interaction also exists with boom boxes: placing a Mine Pass into one produces an easter egg.
Cassettes can be obtained in several ways, including NPC shops, mine chests, and from Jimmy when he visits. Some types are available as treasure chest loot on Mine Deed levels and Island Reef, while others are sold directly from Jimmy’s Boat.
Cassettes found in treasure chests and also sold by Jimmy:
- Blues Cassette
- Hip-Hop Cassette
- Pop Cassette
- Rock Cassette
Cassettes sold by Jimmy’s Boat:
- Ambient Cassette
- Chill Cassette
- Country Cassette
- Creepy Cassette
- Dinner Cassette
- Dreary Cassette
- Experimental Cassette
- Golden Cassette
- Old Cassette
- Shopping Cassette
- Smooth Cassette
Because cassettes are tied to boom boxes rather than being consumable progression items, they are mainly useful for customizing ambience and soundtracks around your settlement or any other area where you want a different music mood. The large variety of tracks lets players swap between upbeat, calm, spooky, or thematic music depending on the situation.
