Canister Filler

The Canister Filler is a gas handling building used to move gases around the colony in a portable form. It requires no power, but its input must be fed from another building’s gas output, including a direct connection from a Gas Pump. Duplicants can then use the filled canisters to manually transport gases from place to place.

The building stores gas in canister form and can hold multiple gas types at once. One source lists its capacity as 25 kg, while another lists 25–200 kg; in practice, the building’s stored gas is collected for delivery when a suitable request exists. If a Canister Emptier is configured to accept one of the gases currently stored, or if an unfilled Soda Fountain needs Carbon Dioxide, a Duplicant will come to the Canister Filler and pick up the requested gas.

Gas is only removed when there is a building requesting it. If the filler is full, the player can also select the building and use the database popup’s Empty Storage button to create a delivery task. When emptied this way, all stored gases are dropped as separate gas canisters, one for each gas type. This immediately frees the building to accept new input, although the emptying still has to be performed manually by a Duplicant.

A few practical notes make the building easier to use:

• It does not accept gas unless another building is actively outputting gas into it.
• It can store different gases simultaneously, so mixed input is possible.
• Gas canisters cannot be placed into storage buildings such as Storage Bin.
• Gas canisters must either be delivered to a Canister Emptier or Soda Fountain, or emptied in place by a Duplicant.
• Emptying the Canister Filler in place works similarly to emptying liquid bottles, with each gas type becoming its own canister on the ground.

Because it is a transport and buffering tool rather than an end-use machine, the Canister Filler is most useful when a colony needs to move gas through areas without piping, stockpile a small amount of a specific gas, or feed consumers that accept gas canisters directly.
