Liquid Valve

Overview

The Liquid Valve is a pipe building that controls how much liquid passes through a liquid pipe. It is used to regulate flow and prevent waste by limiting the output to a chosen maximum, while allowing smaller incoming amounts to pass through unchanged. In practice, it acts as an upper cap on liquid throughput rather than forcing a fixed output.

Its flow setting can be adjusted freely from 0 g/s to 10,000 g/s. A setting of 0 g/s fully blocks flow, while the maximum matches the liquid pipe’s own throughput limit. Valid values are rounded to the nearest tenth of a gram per second, with 0.1 g/s as the smallest nonzero setting. Changing the setting requires Duplicant operation and takes time.

  • If the incoming flow is greater than the setting, the valve limits the output to the configured rate and blocks the excess.
  • If the incoming flow is lower than the setting, the full incoming amount passes through.
  • Because the valve only sets an upper limit, it is useful anywhere a system needs controlled distribution rather than constant full-speed delivery.
  • When handling liquids that can solidify, keeping flow under control helps avoid clogging and unwanted state changes in pipes or storage.

The Liquid Valve is especially useful in pipe networks that feed multiple consumers, split liquids into measured amounts, or need to keep delicate processes from being overwhelmed. By setting a precise cap, players can balance refineries, cooling loops, storage lines, and other liquid systems without manually micromanaging every branch.
