Mangrove

Mangrove is a tree species in Timberborn that serves as a renewable wood source and an aesthetic element of the environment. It appears naturally on maps in water-adjacent and marshy areas and is functionally distinct from inland trees because of its association with wet terrain and the visual character it gives coastal and floodplain biomes. Mangrove logs are harvested by beavers with the same basic mechanics as other trees: a Forester chops trees, and Lumberjacks process felled wood for construction and fuel.

Players encounter mangrove both as part of the map’s flora and as a resource to manage during expansion. Because mangrove grows in or near water, its presence affects layout decisions for water management structures (dams, channels) and placement of water-dependent industry. Reforestation and tree planning should account for mangrove’s spawn locations so that harvesting operations remain accessible even when levees and channels alter local water levels.

• Plant Forester plots or leave natural stands near shorelines and wetlands to maintain a steady supply without forcing beavers to travel across long causeways during droughts.
• Expect mangrove to interact with flooding and seasonal water flow; when redirecting rivers or building dams, check that mangrove stands are not stranded or submerged in a way that prevents harvesting.
• Use mangrove wood like other common woods for construction and fuel; prioritize processing nearby to reduce hauling time from marshy edges into the main colony.
• Mangrove provides thematic continuity for coastal districts; place sawmills and storage close to the shoreline to minimize transit over bridges or across unstable ground.
• Mangrove stands can be part of aesthetic planning for districts that emphasize waterworks and shipping; preserving some stands increases visual variety and can simplify resource logistics for coastal industry.
