Overview

The Grill is a building in Timberborn used to cook food according to specific recipes. It was introduced in the Open Alpha and exists as a 2x2 structure. The Grill processes prepared recipes to convert raw ingredients into cooked food types; each Grill can actively process only one of the three available recipes at a time. The recipe assigned to a Grill may be changed after construction via the building’s detail panel.

The Grill has seen a few historical changes: it was part of the Timberborn Demo as a 2x2 building, Update 1 added the current set of three recipes, and later updates made the Grill Folktails-exclusive content in Update 4. An obsolete Iron Teeth variant of the Grill is known from earlier versions.

  • Each Grill can only process one recipe at a time, so one Grill cannot simultaneously produce multiple cooked foods.
  • To provide the greatest variety of cooked foods to your beavers, build at least three Grills and set each to a different recipe.
  • Change the active recipe by opening the Grill’s detail panel after construction and selecting the desired recipe.
  • The Grill occupies a 2x2 footprint in its placed form.

Grilling as a cooking method is reflected in the game’s flavor: the in-game concept of grilling mirrors real-world practice where cooking over an open heat source yields a characteristic smoky flavor. The lore and trivia associated with grilling note that it is one of humanity’s oldest cooking methods and that the English word “barbecue” likely derives from the Caribbean Taíno term barbacoa, a wooden frame for cooking meat.

Practical placement considerations follow directly from the Grill’s single-recipe limitation: place multiple Grills near storage and ingredient sources to minimize hauling time and ensure continuous food production. Rotate or reassign recipes via the detail panel when ingredient availability changes or when you need to shift production to meet consumption patterns. Build enough Grills to match your settlement’s dietary diversity goals rather than relying on a single Grill to cover multiple food demands.
