Overview

Productivity is a colony-wide benefit tied to beaver wellbeing. In Timberborn, it is increased indirectly by food variety through the Nutrition system: the more different food types beavers eat, the happier they are, and that happiness boosts productivity and breeding rates. This makes varied food production one of the most important long-term economic tools in a colony.

Productivity does not come from raw calorie intake alone. All foods satisfy the same amount of hunger, but each food type belongs to a Nutrition category, and beavers prefer foods that fill Nutrition types they are currently missing. Because of this, a colony that relies on only one food type feeds its beavers, but does not support the same wellbeing as a colony with a broad menu. Ignoring food variety therefore lowers overall performance even if the food stockpile is large.

A strong food setup is one of the easiest ways to maintain high productivity. The practical goal is to move beyond raw foods and build a mixed food chain as early as possible.

The effect scales with colony growth: better food leads to happier beavers, happier beavers work faster and breed more reliably, and that extra labor supports more food production. In practice, productivity is one of the main reasons to invest in processing buildings such as the Grill, Gristmill, Bakery, Fermenter, Oil Press, or Food Factory instead of relying on raw crops alone.
