Overview

Efficient Farmhouse is a storage building that holds up to 200 units of a single type of goods. It is intended to concentrate a single crop or processed food in one place to simplify logistics and reduce travel time for beavers collecting provisions. The building’s fixed single-good capacity encourages specialization of nearby fields and processing chains so that one farmhouse can serve as the central stock for a specific staple.

The farmhouse interacts naturally with Timberborn’s crop and food processing progression. Two crops are eaten raw: Carrots and Sunflower seeds. Two crops require processing to reach their most efficient edible form: Potatoes and Wheat. Carrots mature in 4 days and yield 3 Carrots per harvest. Sunflowers mature in 5 days and yield 2 Sunflower Seeds per harvest. Potatoes mature in 6 days and yield 1 Potato per harvest; Potatoes can be cooked on a Grill that requires Logs and a Worker to produce 4 Grilled potatoes. Wheat matures in 10 days and yields 3 Wheat per harvest; Wheat is processed via a Gristmill and Bakery chain (Gristmill then Bakery) to produce 15 Bread. The Gristmill requires 1 Worker and 60 hp of Power, and the Bakery requires 1 Worker and Logs. Wheat processing appears in the late game but delivers the highest food-per-plot efficiency once the necessary research, power, and infrastructure are in place.

  • Use an Efficient Farmhouse to concentrate a single food type or processed product (for example, bread, grilled potatoes, carrots, or sunflower seeds) so carriers and consumers travel to one location.
  • When space or plot count is limited, prioritize Wheat for maximum food per plot once you can support the Gristmill and Bakery; set the farmhouse to store the resulting bread to maximize usable calories in a single stack.
  • For earlier stages, store raw, high-yield quick crops like Carrots in the farmhouse to supply workers without needing processing infrastructure.
  • Potatoes require a Grill plus Logs and a Worker to convert 1 Potato into 4 Grilled Potatoes; store either raw Potatoes or Grilled Potatoes in the farmhouse depending on whether your settlement can reliably supply Logs and a dedicated worker.
  • Sunflower Seeds and Carrots are edible raw and require less infrastructure; use the farmhouse to keep a steady, low-maintenance reserve for times when processing capacity or fuel is constrained.
  • Because the building only holds a single good type up to 200 units, align adjacent farm plots and processing buildings to produce the same item to avoid frequent transfers and overflow.

Efficient Farmhouse is therefore a logistical tool best used as part of a focused production line: assign nearby fields and processors to the same product, match processing throughput to the farmhouse’s capacity, and transition to wheat-and-bakery production when late-game infrastructure allows for the greatest efficiency.
