Overview

The Aquatic Farmhouse is a Timberborn building used to plant and harvest aquatic crops: Cattail and Spadderdock. The building itself must be placed out of water; workers do not operate from a flooded building. Aquatic Farmhouse workers descend from the farmhouse into adjacent shallow water to plant and harvest. Aquatic crops require water with a depth of less than 1 block to survive and grow; water below one block is sufficient, but crops will die if submerged too deeply or if their water is removed.

Designated planting areas for aquatic crops must be placed underwater. Use the plant crops tool to mark underwater tiles for Cattail and Spadderdock. In the Aquatic Farmhouse settings you can set a crop priority and choose whether beavers should prioritize planting or harvesting for that farmhouse. Workers reach the water from the farmhouse using Stairs or Slopes to descend into the wet area.

Crops grown by the Aquatic Farmhouse yield inedible ingredients that require processing before they become food. Cattail produces Cattail root, which must be ground into Cattail flour at a Gristmill. One Cattail Root yields one unit of Cattail Flour. Cattail Flour is then baked in a Bakery to produce Cattail cracker; one Cattail Flour produces four Cattail Crackers, and baking consumes Logs as fuel. Spadderdock yields Spadderdock, which is processed at a Grill. One Spadderdock produces three Grilled spadderdock; Grills require a regular small supply of Logs to operate. These production chains require additional infrastructure and, in the case of Gristmills, power and gears to operate.

  • Place Aquatic Farmhouses on dry ground adjacent to or above shallow water (lakes, rivers, flooded areas) so workers can access the water but the building remains unflooded.
  • Ensure designated crop areas are underwater with fluid depth less than 1 block and that water will remain at that shallow level; very deep water or drained tiles will kill aquatic crops.
  • Provide stairs or slopes from the farmhouse down to the water so beavers can access planting and harvesting locations.
  • Plan the processing chain before committing large aquatic farms: Cattail requires Gristmill and Bakery (and Logs for baking); Spadderdock requires Grills and a steady Log supply.
  • Configure crop priorities and planting/harvesting priorities in the farmhouse settings to streamline labor and manage limited workforce during badtide or other emergencies.

The Chinese name for the Aquatic Farmhouse is 水生农屋.
