Dynamite
Overview
Dynamites are landscaping structures used to remove terrain blocks by detonating explosive charges. There are three strengths — 




When detonated, a Dynamite triggers the detonation of any adjacent Dynamite at the same height, producing chain reactions that allow large areas to be flattened quickly. Fields of Dynamite can be staged and then set off with a Detonator for instant, coordinated blasts. Dynamites do not destroy Badwater Sources or Water Sources, so they cannot be used to remove those feature types.
Construction and requirements follow three strength tiers. The base Dynamite removes one terrain block and requires one
Explosive and 600 Science Points to unlock. Double Dynamite removes two terrain blocks and requires one Explosive plus one Extract and 900 Science Points to unlock. Triple Dynamite removes three terrain blocks and requires one Explosive plus two Extract and 1200 Science Points to unlock. Dynamites cannot be built on the map’s lowest level. They can be built on Paths and may be placed underwater. They can also be placed under the pipes of pumps.
Dynamites were introduced during Early Access. Subsequent updates added Double and Triple versions, updated models and sound effects, enabled placement under pump pipes, added a detonation keybinding, and explicitly allowed building on Paths.
Dynamite’s fictional production lore references real-world ingredients. The main explosive ingredient is nitroglycerin, which is stabilized in dynamite by mixing it with an absorbent material (historically diatomaceous earth) to reduce accidental detonation. Over time gelignite replaced diatomaceous earth in real-world formulations because it better contains nitroglycerin and prevents leakage, improving safety. In-game, Builders combine Explosives and Extract to create the different Dynamite variants.
- Builder converts Explosives (and Extract for Double/Triple) into Dynamites.
- Detonate any built Dynamite to trigger adjacent Dynamites at the same height and create chain reactions.
- Fields of Dynamite can be detonated instantly using Detonators.
- Dynamites cannot remove Badwater Sources or Water Sources.
- Placement rules: cannot be built on the map’s lowest level; can be built on Paths; can be built underwater; can be placed beneath pump pipes.
- Unlock costs: Dynamite 600
Science, Double 900 Science, Triple 1200 Science; material costs progress from 1 Explosive to 1 Explosive + Extract variations.
