Overview

The Power Wheel is a power generation building in Timberborn. It produces a base 50 Horsepower (HP) when occupied by a beaver and serves as a source within a power grid. The Power Wheel is a 3×1 building introduced in Early Access and, after subsequent updates, became a Folktails-exclusive generator. Its power output scales with the occupant beaver’s Movement Speed: with the maximum Movement Speed bonus (+70%) a Power Wheel produces 85 HP, and with a -25% Movement Speed penalty (for example, working while Thirst) its output drops to about 38 HP. The Power Wheel transfers generated power into the settlement’s power network and, since Update 6, can also transfer power underneath other structures.

The Power Wheel functions as part of Timberborn’s generation, transmission and distribution systems. As a generation building it contributes to the combined power available in a power grid; the exact amount of equipment and generation capacity a player needs depends on which and how many powered buildings are in use. Power generated by the Power Wheel can be routed directly into adjacent powered buildings or into broader networks using power shafts and other transmission methods. Excess generated power can be stored in Gravity Batteries.

  • Power characteristics: base 50 HP when occupied; output scales directly with the worker beaver’s Movement Speed bonuses or penalties.
  • Occupation and efficiency: the building requires a beaver to be occupied to generate its listed power; movement-speed modifiers that affect a beaver (positive or negative) proportionally change the Power Wheel’s output.
  • Placement and transmission: connect the Power Wheel directly to nearby powered buildings for short-range use, or feed it into power shafts and shared power networks for longer-range distribution. The Power Wheel can transfer power underneath other structures (added in a later update).
  • Faction and availability: the Power Wheel is Folktails-exclusive following Update 5.
  • Build footprint and cost history: the Power Wheel occupies a 3×1 footprint; its build cost was lowered in Update 7 from 40 Logs to 20 Logs.
  • Storage interaction: generated power can be routed into Gravity Batteries for later use as part of a power grid.

Plan power grids knowing that generation buildings are not always 100% consistent: some generators fluctuate with environmental conditions or worker status, and powered buildings run at reduced efficiency if they receive less than the required power. The Power Wheel’s dependence on beaver Movement Speed makes worker well-being and bonuses important factors when sizing and managing a power network.
