Chestnut

Overview
Chestnut is a tree species in Timberborn commonly referred to in Chinese sources as 栗子树. It functions as a renewable plant resource with a lifecycle and in-game properties defined in the game files. Chestnut trees mature over multiple days and are used to produce edible chestnuts; they have been part of the game since its introduction and received balance and faction changes in subsequent updates.
Chestnut maturation time was adjusted in Update 7 from 23.5 days to 23 days. Update history also notes that chestnuts were introduced in Update 1 and were made Folktail-exclusive in Update 4. Data extracted from game files provide additional in-game attributes (these values are file-derived and may change with future updates): volume 1×1×3, growth time 23.5 days (original value), planting time 0.74 hours, felling time 1.2 hours, harvest cycle 8 days, harvest time 1 hour, reproduction chance 0.03, wilt time between 7.2–8.8 days (base 8 days, random 0.9–1.1), required water level 0 (min) and 0 (max), drowning time 9–11 days (base 10 days, random 0.9–1.1), display width range 0.9–1.2, display height range 0.9–1.2, and display rotation range 0–360.
Practical notes for using chestnuts in play:
- Chestnut trees are a renewable food source with an 8-day harvest cycle once mature; plan orchard layouts to stagger planting so harvests are regular.
- Planting and harvesting take measurable time (planting ~0.74 hours, harvesting ~1 hour in file data); factor worker allocation and forage/harvest labor into schedules.
- Trees occupy a 1×1×3 volume; they are compact and fit into tight groves or clustered orchards.
Chestnuts have no water requirement in the file data (min and max water level 0), but wilt and drowning timers indicate trees can die from environmental extremes; monitor local conditions to avoid losses.
- The chestnut is noted in trivia as the only nut containing vitamin C; roasted chestnuts are a cultural food item mentioned in community notes.
Do not assume details omitted from the available sources (such as specific tools, building names, or exact workforce roles used to plant, harvest, or process chestnuts) without consulting the current in-game UI or updated official documentation.
