Overview

Corn is a basic crop good grown by beavers to satisfy food needs and to feed into other production chains. It appears as a harvestable crop on farmland plots and is classified as a Good in the game's resource system. Corn plots are planted on tilled soil and go through growth stages until harvest, after which they yield Corn units that can be stored, consumed by beavers, or used in recipes that require crops.

Corn interacts with the colony economy and needs system: it helps meet beaver hunger and is a common input for mid-game food processing or trade. Corn growth depends on available farmland, irrigation from nearby water systems, and seasonal/weather cycles; farmland placed on well-irrigated, fertile terrain produces consistent harvests, while plots on dry or poorly irrigated land fail to reach full yield.

  • Corn is produced by assigning beavers to work on crop tiles (farmland). Ensure enough Worker beavers and access paths so workers reach fields promptly.
  • Irrigation and water management directly affect Corn yields. Build channels, pumps, or reservoirs to keep farmland wet through dry seasons and Badwater events.
  • Corn must be stored in appropriate storage buildings to prevent it blocking worker tasks; use stockpiles or dedicated storages to organize harvests for feeding, crafting, or exporting.
  • Use crop rotation and multiple staggered fields to smooth supply across seasons. Stagger planting times so not all fields mature simultaneously, avoiding shortages during adverse weather or worker shortages.
  • Automation and mods can simplify large-scale Corn logistics: automation components and QoL Workshop mods noted by the community add triggers and improved overlays that help manage irrigation, storage levels, and worker assignment for agricultural operations.
  • Map choice affects early Corn viability. Maps with abundant stable water sources and flatter terrain favor rapid farmland expansion and reliable Corn production; vertical or water-heavy maps require different approaches (terracing, bridges, blocking water) to secure farmland and irrigation.

Corn is a foundational agricultural good; managing its production and integration with water systems, worker assignment, and storage is essential to a stable, growing colony.
