Overview

The Detailer is a well-being building in Timberborn that customizes beaver tails by assigning decorative tail patterns. It provides a detail window where each beaver's tail can be set to a different pattern drawn from the game's default patterns or from user-supplied custom images. The building was introduced in Update 6.

The Detailer lists the game's default tail patterns grouped by faction; examples include the Folktails set (Tail1.Folktails.png, Tail2.Folktails.png, Tail3.Folktails.png, Tail4.Folktails.png) and the IronTeeth set (Tail1.IronTeeth.png, Tail2.IronTeeth.png, Tail3.IronTeeth.png, Tail4.IronTeeth.png). Custom images placed in the designated folder appear in the Detailer's list and may be selected like any default pattern. A community-maintained page collects many custom tail patterns for use.

Browse opens the system folder Documents\Timberborn\Tails, which is the custom-image storage location where downloaded or user-made tail images are placed. If you add or change files in that folder, use the Detailer's Refresh function to update the list of available custom images.

Preferred custom image format is transparent 1024x1024 PNG, but Timberborn also accepts JPGs and lower resolutions. A template for custom tails is available (original template credited to Stone Cold Jane Austen on the Timberborn Discord). The game gallery shows examples of decorated tails at various zoom levels and postures.

  • There is no limit to how many unique tail images can be used in a colony.
  • Use Browse to open Documents\Timberborn\Tails and place custom images there; use Refresh in the Detailer to pick up changes.
  • Transparent 1024x1024 PNGs are preferred for best results; JPGs and smaller resolutions are also supported.
  • Fine detail in custom tails is visible only when you zoom in all the way; design with appropriate scale in mind.
  • Tattoo-style images consisting of pure black on pure transparency do not display strongly; consider adding a somewhat transparent white background so designs "pop" more.
  • A community page and gallery provide many example patterns and showcase how designs look at different zoom levels and beaver postures.
